Jujitsu

Jujitsu was created by the Japanese samurai caste for hand-to-hand combat. Translated, it means "the soft art". Jujitsu emphasizes the use of leverage and technique to overcome an opponent. It's a comprehensive system of hand-to-hand combat skills: punching and kicking, throws and escapes, weapon defenses, ground fighting, and rolling and falling techniques.

Because of its wide range of skills (striking, grappling, throwing, falling, joint locks and chokes) jujitsu is a very effective form of self-defense. In fact, most of the defensive tactics that are taught to the armed forces and police departments of many countries are derived from jujitsu.

Kodenkan of Tucson offers 2 styles of jujitsu; Danzan Ryu Jujitsu and Matsuno Ryu Goshinjujitsu

Youth Judo/Jujitsu is a self-defense martial art designed to promote self-confidence, self-discipline and youth fitness through the ancient traditions of Japan.

Welcome to Matsuno Ryu Goshinjitsu. The foundation of this modern jujitsu system was introduced in 1947 as Kajukenbo. Matsuno Ryu has maintained many of the jujitsu skills once taught in Kajukenbo by two of the co-founders Joseph Holck and Peter Choo.

Welcome to Danzan Ryu Jujitsu which was introduced in Hawaii in 1932 by Judo Master, Professor H.S. Okazaki. This traditional system incorporates joint locking, throwing and pinning skills similar to Judo emphasizing self-defense rather than competition.

The Kodenkan of Tucson teaches a wide variety of traditional and modern martial arts styles including Karate, Jujitsu, Judo, Kung Fu, Batto-do (Japanese Sword), Hiraido (Mixed Martial Arts/MMA) and Lil’Dragons. With classes for children, teens, adults, and seniors, we have something for just about every member of the family!
